The patterns available in this range of knitting kits are inspired by items from the Shetland Museum and Archives Textile Collection, and are available exclusively though the Shetland Museum and Archives Heritage Shop.
The Textile Collection contains many original pieces, knitted using hand-spun and hand dyed yarns in the traditional Fair Isle colours. These colours have recently been revived in a joint project between Shetland Amenity Trust and Jamieson & Smith (Shetland Wool Brokers) Ltd, and have resulted in the creation of a 2 ply jumper weight yarn, available in the 'Shetland Heritage Yarns' colour range. These colours have been used to produce this range of knitting kits, aimed at novice to expert level, so that knitters around the world can create traditional Fair Isle knitting using traditional patterns and colours.
Each kit is supplied with everything required to produce the Fair Isle garment, including yarn, needles, pattern and a calico ditty (knitting) bag.
